CEFORD in partnership with Danish Refugee Council (DRC), Dan Church Aid (DCA), PALM Corps, and PICOT with funding from Danish Embassy is implementing the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) project across the four geographical regions in Uganda Hosting refugees. The duration of the project isfour years and four months fromSeptember 2024 to December 2028. URRI Consortium under DRC leads operates across two regions: North West Nile (Yumbe, Obongi, and Moyo) and South West Nile (Madi Okollo, Terego, and Koboko), benefiting both refugees (35%) and host communities (65%). CEFORD will be implementing URRI in Terego and Midi-Okollo Districts. URRI adopts a collaborative approach involving local governments, private sector actors, and civil society. It emphasizes gender inclusion, equitable resource access, and co-designed interventions to address climate change and promote sustainable livelihoods. The initiative leverages market systems and community-driven solutions to ensure long-term impact and resilience. In order to realize the project’s goals and objectives, CEFORD invites application from competent and suitably qualified candidates to fill the following Positions;

Job Purpose
The Environment Assistant will support the implementation of environmental and climate resilience activities under the Outcome 2 of URRI Project. He or she will assist the Environment Officer in promoting sustainable natural resource management, ecosystem restoration, and community-based environmental initiatives in refugee-hosting and surrounding host communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support planning and execution of field-based environmental activities such as tree planting, land restoration, and natural resource management.
- Mobilize and engage refugee and host community groups to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives.
- Conduct sensitization and awareness sessions on sustainable environmental practices and climate change adaptation.
- Facilitate training for community-based facilitators and farmer field schools on nursery establishment, tree management, and soil and Water conservation.
- Support construction and dissemination of energy-saving technologies such as Lorena stoves and fuel-efficient devices.
- Participate in monitoring project sites to assess tree survival rates, tree protection, land restored, and adoption of improved practices.
- Collect environmental data, maintain records, and prepare weekly and monthly activity reports for the Environment Officer.
- Ensure project activities comply with URRI’s environmental standards and contribute to climate resilience objectives.
- Collaborate with district environment and forestry officers, local leaders, and partner agencies to harmonize environmental efforts.
- Account for distributed seedlings, tools, and materials used during environmental interventions.
- Support GIS/GPS mapping of restoration sites and tree planting areas for monitoring and reporting.
- Promote equitable participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in environmental activities.
- Assist in organizing logistics, procurement requests, and field requisitions related to environmental activities.
- Identify environmental risks, challenges, and propose mitigation measures in collaboration with the Environment Officer.
- Uphold URRI’s policies on environment, gender equality, and child protection throughout all interventions.
Person Specifications and Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Environmental Science, Forestry, Natural Resource Management.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in environmental conservation or natural resource management in community or humanitarian settings.
- Practical experience in tree nursery management, ecosystem restoration, or community training.
- Knowledge of GIS/GPS tools, data collection, and basic report writing.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Job Purpose
The Gender and Protection Assistant will support the Gender and Protection Officer in implementing activities aimed at promoting gender equality, safeguarding vulnerable groups, and ensuring protection mainstreaming within all URRI interventions. He or she will facilitate community mobilization, capacity building, case follow-up, and reporting to strengthen inclusive and protective environments for both refugee and host community members.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage community-based structures, including women’s groups, youth associations, and local leaders, to promote gender equality and protection awareness.
- Support integration of gender-responsive approaches like Gender Action Learning System (GALs) across all URRI project activities and three outcome areas to ensure equitable participation of women, men, youth, and persons with disabilities.
- Assist in identifying, documenting, and referring protection concerns, including genderbased violence (GBV) and child protection cases, following established referral pathways.
- Provide basic psychosocial support and link survivors to appropriate service providers in coordination with the Gender and Protection Officer.
- Facilitate training sessions and dialogues on gender equality, GBV prevention, protection rights, and community-based safeguarding.
- Conduct outreach campaigns to raise awareness on gender roles, conflict resolution, and the rights of vulnerable individuals.
- Assist in the establishment and management of women, youth, or child-friendly spaces to promote participation, counseling, and peer support.
- Collect gender and protection data, document success stories, and prepare weekly and monthly reports for the Gender and Protection Officer.
- Work closely with community-based protection committees, local leaders, and district gender and probation officers to enhance referral networks.
- Support regular monitoring of protection-related activities and identify emerging risks affecting refugees and host communities.
- Participate in campaigns and dialogues to reduce GBV incidents and promote positive gender norms.
- Ensure equal participation of women, men, and marginalized groups in decision-making processes within project activities.
- Adhere to CEFORD’s and URRI’s safeguarding policies, ensuring that beneficiaries are protected from sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment.
- Maintain updated referral directories and follow up on cases referred to service providers to ensure timely support.
- Support community advocacy efforts aimed at addressing harmful social practices and improving access to protection services.
Person Specifications and Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Social Work and Social Administration, Gender Studies, Community Development, Human Rights.
- At least 3 years of experience in gender using GALs methodology, protection, or GBV related work within humanitarian or development settings.
- Strong understanding of protection principles, referral mechanisms, and gender mainstreaming practices.
- Experience in community facilitation, case follow-up, and psychosocial support is an added advantage.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and maintain confidentiality and empathy.
