Key Function: Driver and logistics Assistant is responsible for transportation operations and ensuring effective delivery of goods.
Position: Driver and Logistics Assistant -01 Position
Location: Arua
Reports to: Project Accountant
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Driving and safety of passengers and property
- Provide transportation for the Program, staff pickup and drop off, airport collection and transport of visitors as directed by your supervisor and the Senior Managers;
- Drive vehicles carefully and safely in accordance with the laws of Uganda, and CEFORD Policies and procedures.
- Give attention to the physical wellbeing of passengers, providing comfort breaks and other assistance as required; at all times treating passengers with courtesy and friendliness.
- Ensure that the destination, expected timings and any tasks to be accomplished are clear;
- Load and unload supplies
2. Maintain the vehicle in sound condition for driving
- Carrying out daily checks on vehicles ensuring that they are in good working condition; recording any problems requiring future action in the vehicle check list.
- Carrying out minor maintenance (e.g. filling oil, water and air) before vehicles will travel.
- Ensure that vehicles are equipped with all necessary breakdown and safety equipment and that it is also in full working Condition.
- Determine when and what kind of maintenance the vehicle needs, keep track of general maintenance schedules, especially car tire condition and report to Supervisor for action.
- Obtain quotes for minor vehicle maintenance;
- Request vehicle maintenance, entering items that have been noted on the vehicle check list into the repair requisition form, and obtaining necessary authorizations.
- Follow up to ensure that vehicle maintenance work is done on time; inspect vehicles after repair to ensure that maintenance work has been complete and to good standard.
- Ensure sound running of the vehicles assigned and arrange minor repairs where necessary;
3. Maintain records pertaining to the vehicle assigned to you
- Contact your supervisor in order to give progress reports on completed assignments.
- Maintain logbook and record all trips clearly with start and end.
- Submit vehicle status report.
- Compile the monthly summary journey log for all vehicles.
4. Logistics
- Coordinate routes and schedules by planning travel routes that will accomplish all activities in the most cost-effective way and follow procedures.
- Communicate with staff regarding travels and deliveries
- To assist in the coordination, transporting and distribution of logistical resources.
- Register, deliver and distribute mail/letters as needed, both incoming and outgoing.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- A minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education with knowledge in mechanics.
- Valid driver’s license class B1 with clean driving record.
Job related experience and knowledge:
- 2+ years driving experience in a medium sized organization
- Defensive driving experience
- Knowledge of Ugandan Traffic Laws and regulation
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain composure at all times.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues and teamwork skills.
- Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of different sectors of the community, traditions, culture, beliefs of refugee/host community hierarchical structures.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and to meet management deadlines;
- Excellent navigation and route planning skills
